        A Career in Manufacturing

        We’ll Call You

        Our Interview Process

If you haven’t thought of a career in Manufacturing before, it’s about time you start! Not all jobs are simply producing product; albeit those positions are extremely important. But there are other jobs in Manufacturing to consider: Engineering, Supply Chain, Information Technology, Sales and Marketing, Administrative, and more!

Manufacturing jobs are in abundance as the economy is surging. A part of this as we’ve seen over the last several decades is due to the introduction of automation and technology to Manufacturing. These new and improved technologies require a skill set that many of the current workforce doesn’t possess. In combination with near-historic low unemployment, the skilled talent group that is available isn’t available for long. Yes, perhaps some positions in the industry may decrease as automation makes routine tasks simpler, but those old positions will be replaced with other advance-skilled positions. The Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte Insights’ 2018 study released the news that they expect the number of new jobs in Manufacturing to accelerate and grow by 1.96 million workers by 2028. This is due to 3 reasons that they identify as:

        • Shifting skill sets due to the introduction of advanced technologies
        • Misperceptions of manufacturing jobs
        • Retirement of baby boomers

Another fact that Manufacturers are combatting is the reputation of not being a very “glamorous” field, and many young folks coming out of high school haven’t given the field a thought, or wouldn’t normally consider a trade school as an ideal career path. But here are a few shocking statistics from the National Association of Manufacturers that may make you think twice about a career in Manufacturing:

        • Manufacturers contributed $2.33 trillion to the U.S. economy in the first quarter of 2018. This figure has risen since the second quarter of 2009, when manufacturers contributed $1.70 trillion. Over that same time frame, value-added output from durable goods manufacturing grew from $0.86 trillion to $1.26 trillion, with nondurable goods output up from $0.84 trillion to $1.07 trillion. In 2017, manufacturing accounted for 11.6 percent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in the economy. (Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis)
        • In 2017, the average manufacturing worker in the United States earned $84,832 annually, including pay and benefits. The average worker in all nonfarm industries earned $66,847. The average manufacturing worker earned more than $27 per hour, according to the latest figures, in wages alone. (Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis and Bureau of Labor Statistics)
        • Manufacturers have one of the highest percentages of workers who are eligible for health benefits from their employer. Reports by the Kaiser Family Foundation show 92 percent of manufacturing employees were eligible for health insurance benefits in 2015. This is significantly higher than the 79 percent average for all firms. (Source: Kaiser Family Foundation)
        • Every $1.00 in output from the manufacturing industry generates another $1.89 of additional value.

As for Mesa Industries, we believe in cross training all employees so that our Production staff is useful to the entire plant. We can teach you our methods and processes and just ask that you bring the soft skills. Critical thinking, people and time management, etc. are all just as important as the actual working skill you possess. Each employee brings value to the organization no matter what generation or department you represent. We take on-boarding our employees very seriously and make it our mission for you to love it here! We offer a competitive benefits package and consider our employees part of the family. We are a small company, at around 65 employees, so we get to wear many hats which keeps it exciting! We love working here and think you will too.

        • Once you’ve applied for a position, we will be in touch with all candidates that match our needs. This may take a few days up to a few weeks.
        • It’s important to make sure you have updated your phone number and email address on your resume! How else would we get in touch with you?
        • If you don’t see an open position that fits your skill set now, you can always leave us your resume! See the upload resume section of our Careers page, and if something opens up in your field of interest we can call you!

        • Once you’ve applied for a position, we will review all applicants based on experience and qualifications. Should you be a fit for the position, our HR department will be in touch with you for a phone interview. This interview is geared toward past education, experience and determining your initial fit with the company.
        • You will then have an interview with The Department Hiring Manager to dig deeper into the skill requirements of the position, and possibly briefly meet with the President for an introduction.
        • If necessary for the position, candidates may be asked to complete an assessment.
        • If candidates have been chosen as the top candidate after interview and assessment, an offer letter will be sent to the applicant contingent on a drug and alcohol screening. Some positions also require a background check.
        • Our HR department will check the Candidate’s references.
        • Pending test results, the candidate will receive final notification of their start date to join our team!

        Are You the Missing Piece?

I've worked at large corporations prior to Mesa. It is refreshing to work for a small company where you get a chance to wear many hats. We really are a team and enjoy working with each other.Joy Salaz

I look forward to going to work on Monday and wish I had more time on Friday. This is a dynamic work environment with the full support of the team at Mesa striving to ensure we support our customer, provide a quality product and work together towards everyone’s success! Really glad to be here!Brian McKenna
